Anyone seen a second year hab or any other variety slowly die with a sort of die back that roses get? The outer branches die and the rot very slowly goes to the main trunk of the plant. It als looses all its leaves Michael(Mad king) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I had this disease as a seed borne disease. I had what is called stem rot. What I learned and can remember. What you describe sounds like crown rot. In the stuff I read it say's that it takes about 2 weeks of the soil being constantly wet for this disease to get a good start. This fungi also likes high nitrogen. Once started it takes 3 to 5 years to get rid of it. The suggestion was to plant small grain crops in that soil. For a soil treatment, my County Agent had 1 listing, Ridomil Gold 16E. Search into this chemical: 1 pint cost $116 Made either 1,000 or 10,000 gal ~~ I don't remember exactly just that it was out of my means and use. A suggestion, remove and burn all plants that are infected to reduce the possiblity of spreading to the rest of your plants. This disease can be spread by insects and tools. For the rest of the plants a suggestion to back off on the water. Allow the soil surface to dry a couple days between waterings. This will help keep this fungi in check. When you do water use about 25% less than you have been, Hope this helps Lord Byron
