My cousin sends me postings from Ice-Bike at times. This is a list for people who like to ride bicycles on ice and in snow. The following is one he forwarded to me which should strike a sympathetic chord. > > <snip> >Sometimes your hands or feet get cold while you are riding. <snip> > Sometimes (like yesterday for me), it may be colder than you > expected. My $0.79CDN gloves from Wall-Mart just didn't > make it (do you believe that 0.79 cents! Thats ten cents a finger, > and the thumbs are free!) > Anyway, You may not be in the mood to waste time stopping > to warm you hands. You might think, "I just want to get home." > BUT. When you get there, your fingers are in pain from the > cold. > Well, yesterday, I theorized that hot pepper sauce would increase > circulation, so I ate a lot.... Until the pain on my tongue was > almost unbearable. Know what? The pain in my fingers disappeared! > Now, just because something works once, is not too good of a test, > so in the interest of science, I rode home tonight with a pair of > thin hole-filled gloves, and tried the hot sauce again. > It worked. > Now, you've got to use a good hot sauce. Jalapeno isn't hot enough. > Habanero must be the number 1 ingredient. Something like "Raw Heat", > or something from the "Pain is Good" family work. I don't know if it > is the peppers that do it, or the endorphins that they cause to be > released, however, it does eliminate the pain of cold fingers.
