Angel My preference is Peters Sterile Seed starting medium It can been purchased in as little as 4 qts. (IIRC) Several reasons 1. Only 1 bag to mess with. 2. Sterile also means no bugs and no diseases. 3. Neutral pH, I can adjust the way I want. In use, the 1st time only I was wetting with a 10% 5-10-5 or 4-12-4. (trying cow tea this year) A few thoughts against garden soil. 1. around here it is usually frozen when I start seeds anyways. 2. In the garden, IR and UV radiation from the sun helps keep many bacteria and fungi in check, Also air movement When you bring it in the house those "Helpers" are no longer there. 3. Seed starting mediums and potting soils allow for better drainage than most soils. Just a few other thoughts Lord Byron
