<< Thailand soon and I asked them if they could bring back some peppers. >> Ms Dewi, That's an easy one. First they can buy the seeds many places as well as dried ones, but the most fun place is out at the Weekend Market, Chatuchak Park. It is an outdoor, but covered market of everything you possibly could want, or for that matter many things you don't want! Facing the front where the Taxis drop you to the left is the "garden area." The seeds for many chiles can be found there as well as other veggie seeds. Now remember their calendar is different so seeds showing dates of 2544 is 2001. They use the Western calendar but many things are numbered according to the Buddhist Era, which began in 543 B.C. Thai Dragon or long Chile is Phrik chee fa (capsicum annuum) Thai small Chile or Bird Chile is Phrik khee nu (capsicum annuum) There also is a yellow Chile, but I can't remember the full name Phrik is the Thai word for Chile. Now in Thai you pronounce each letter. So, it is not frik, phrik the ph sound is a breathy p-h then rik, in otherwords a breathy p-h-rik! sorry don't mean to offend, but it's the way to pronounce it. If you run around asking for frik I haven't a clue what you'd get :-) We have a couple of real favorite Hot eating spots in Bangkok. Somboon for the best Curried Crab in the world!!!!! It is located near Siam Square. Don't order it out of the shell, the taste isn't as good as digging it out of the flavorful shells. Sucking away slurping up this heavenly curried crab and washing in down with a Singha beer--ahhhhhhh and it is so reasonable!!!!! Another great place to taste and eat your way in glorious surroundings can be found on the 5th floor of the Erawan Hyatt. Honest! Yes, in a hotel. They have a set price at lunch and you can order anything and everything tasting real Thai taste food. We often go there, order a couple of the appetizers, then order some salads, then order some entrees, and so on. DON'T order all at once or it ARRIVES all at once. This is a meal to savor and eat hot, HOT dish by dish. The stuffed crab-wow, the duck curry ahhhh, the Hor Mok Talay (mixed seafood curry) cooked in little wells in a terra cotta dish. Oh I want to go back NOW. http://www.baanthai.com/starte.shtml info in English/German on Thailand stuff http://www.tat.or.th/ http://www.nationmultimedia.com/ news of Thailand If you want more info email me off list I'll try and be of help as I have been to Thailand over 30 times over the last 15 years.
