Subject: When to start seedlings I may have jumped the gun, but I started my seedlings in two batches. The first on Jan. 17, has produced seedlings anywhere from just germinating to 3". The second batch started on Jan. 25 has produced some just germinating to almost 1". Not all the seedlings have germinated, but it appears there are some new ones daily. I am finding the average germination time to be about 12 days; but also, the different varieties seem to favor different germination rates. And after two and one-half weeks some have not yet germinated. I still have all my seedlings in the original starter boxes, and it doesn't look like they are crowded (a max. of 3 seeds per 1 1/2 in. square box). One source (J.L. Hudson, Seedman) recommends starting in early Spring, then transplanting outdoors in mid-May). I am considering that "Peppers need a long, warm growing season". There may be as many pluses as minuses to starting so early so I am interested in other responses, since, like yourself, I'm new at this. Frank
