This sounds like a cape gooseberry (choke cherries are mostly one large seed, no husk, grow on trees). A friend told me he and his wife fell in love with that fruit in Italy, where kitchen people pulled back the husk and dipped them in melted chocolate at their hotel...Ground cherries are a bit different, taste like stale orange juice to me. Margaret L </A> It's a Ground Cherry or Choke Cherry or Gooseberry. They are quite good. You pick when the husk dries and the fruit is golden. I love to peel the husk back like wings and garnish a meal with them.
