I'm back from the short trip to Oz & NZ. Tony Flynn is truly a wonderful travel guide and chock full of information. Our first stop was to Ian Sinclair's Pepperama shop which is fantastic. How I wish we had a shop like that a little bit closer. Tony gave Ian a huge bag of habs, they sure did look good. It was so nice to meet both Tony and Ian. We also visited the "Winter Garden" in Auckland, which had a large variety of healthy pepper plants. I have put some of the photos up at http://home.earthlink.net\~socalsuz\Auckland.html The thumbnails don't do justice to the pictures. Click on the thumbnail to view the larger photo. Most of the plants are familiar but they weren't labeled. Anyone planning to visit the countries down under, be sure to take along your spices. The Australian food is quite horrid, New Zealand does somewhat better. I also found out that the Aussies do not speak English as we know it. I did visit the Rattlesnake Grill in Sydney, and it was very good. I ordered the Chipolte Shrimp, even tho the waiter warned me that it was "quite spicy". Uh huh ... I was tempted to pull out my CH card. The shrimp was tasty and we also ordered a side of jalapenos to go along with the meal. Those were fantastic. Weather is warming up here in SoCal, maybe it's safe to put those chile babies outside now. It threatened to snow last weekend, now it's in the 80's. Thanks again to Tony for the great sightseeing and next time, I'll plan to make the trip for a much longer duration. http://home.earthlink.net/~socalsuz
