Most of the disposable diapers are being manufactured using polyacrilimide crystals. They can absorb up to 200 times their weight in water. We have been using them for several years to hold moisture in our sandy soil. I just purchased three cases of 8 ounce jars of crystals with 7-7-7 slow release fertilizer pellets. I intend to try them with several different veggies and flowers. I'm sorry for you organic gardeners, but it appears that the fertilizers are chemical. The advertising says that the fertilizer will take 6 to 9 months to release. A tablespoon works for a 1 gallon pot and the stuff will probabably sell for $8.00 to $10.00 per 8 ounce jar. > I would think that the gel material would be available in powdered from > in bulk. > A lot cheaper than buying the diaper variety and eliminates the worry of > having the > diaper still around after 100 years.
