Speaking of alcoholic bug traps...

Last summer I had an invasion of fruit flies (came with some Vidalia onions
that were obviously on sale for a reason...).  Large quantities of them,
and they're attracted to computer monitors.

anyway, someone said that leaving out a bowl of wine will attract them, and
they'll die.  I did a little experiment, leaving out a bowl of merlot that
had been open about 4 weeks, a really cheap sauvignon blanc, and the bottom
of a really good bottle of reisling from one of the local wineries.

The fruit flies prefered the merlot-vinegar.
