They are Capsicum annum - the most common species habs are capsicum chinense (big misnomer since they originate from the carribean way) aji are capsicum baccatum rocoto/manzanos are capsicum pubescens (the pubescens refers to the short hairs that cover the leaves and is a very common taxonomical term ;-) regards, jr p.s. It's funny - but I think all the "uncommon" varieties are my favourites. They all seem to have a lot more flavour, yet still plenty of heat. aji and rocotos are just delicious.
