Hello from southeastern Pa.Thanks for your reply as to what hit the
habaneros last week.My dad had 50+ containers grown from seed and were
growing beautifully until they ,in 3 days, got wrinkled shrunken deep green
leaves, stunted, leaf drop with some rust color, aphid infested sick plants.I
asked a local nursery as I bought 50 golden habs for 6 for$1.49.Sounded like
I found treasure.He said from what I explained,it was a chemical spray and I
think he's right. The same thing happened to part of his plants when a
neighboring farm sprayed and the wind carried it onto his plants. They,
overnite, became stunted, leaves became wrinkled and died. My dad's
containers were in the country next to a farm that sprays the corn.I was
there and saw the sprayer tank truck drive up the lane and in 5 minutes, we
could smell the chemical carried by the wind.Yuck.A neighbor sprayed for
poison ivy and weeds during this period and Pa. is resuming Gypsy moth
aerial spraying.Really, the world can do without all these
chemicals.(remember Rachel Carson?)Once you are bitten by the pepper
bug,it's really hard to not buy, grow more and more chili peppers. My 79 year
old dad got into this hobby last year after visiting the ChileFest in
Bowers,Pa. last August 2000.He makes the best salsa from habs you can
imagine, if your head doesn't wring wet then it's not hot enough. So today we
went to MeadowView Farm in Bowers,Pa.FUN? We left when the money ran out and
only then. I remember someone visited MeadowView and posted there weren't
any peppers in the hot pepper patch. There weren't,I asked, and found that
the hot pepper patch will be in the field behind the barn this year. They
rotate. They grow 150 varieties of HOT PEPPERS and we left with Savina Red
Habs., Peach Habs.,Cappachino Habs.,Yellow Scotch Bonnet,5 color,hot
banana,Cuban ?,They have 28 kinds of habs alone. So many to try, so little
space. The Chili magazine featured this farm last year and its only a wagon
ride away from the ChiliFest.Life is good.
