<De-lurking> Hi all, I have an abundance of red savina habs this year. I have 10 plants and the other day I picked about 70 red ripe habs off the plants with many more just starting to ripen. Anyway, I went to the grocery store to pick up some items to make hot sauce and went to the produce section and saw they had some regular habs for sale in plastic containers. There were 5 habs per container and they were half the size of the red savinas from my garden. They wanted 4 dollars for 5 scrawney little habs that looked like they were starting to go bad! I had just gave 40 of the habs I picked away to friends. I never bought habs from a store.....I never seen them at the grocery store around here until today. I always grow my own.Now I know why I get so many calls in the summer to see if I have any ripe habaneros yet. All this time I thought they liked me for my wonderful personality :-) I couldn't beleive habaneros cost that much at a grocery store. I just give them away so they don't go to waste. Are those prices typical ?? Is there an habanero shortage or something?? I wonder what the grocery store would have charged for big healthy habs out of a chile-head 's garden?? Rob:-)
