Hi Miss Dewi and all,
There is your note this morning (in Dayton Ohio) Yes that's where I am at
present folks, after spending yesterday with "Saint" Jim Campbell and lovely
wife Abby. Having delivered hot sauces from Luke and received HP sauce from
Doug Irving (Thanks Doug) THE sauce of my childhood :-)
Now the bad news. I am going home to NZ at the weekend and will not be able
to stay for the "Open Fields" in October.
which of course was to be the climax of a 3 month holiday in the US.
To explain! 2days before I left NZ I had a loss of control whilst driving
home at night and ran off the road slightly damaging my car.
Concerned I went to see my doctor the next day who checked me over and
thought I had suffered what is known as a TIA (Mild stroke)
Told me to take an asprin a day and enjoy my holiday.
After arriving in Dayton Ohio. My hostess and I decided to travel down to
New Orleans, for the Louis Armstrong 100th birthday jazz festival.
Despite the heat wave across the south.
The festival was great. 3 days of nonstop music played with great passion
and joy. Including an unforgettable jazz mass Sunday morning at a big
church. Followed by the bands parading through the stretts of New Orleans.
So as there was a tropical storm brewing in the Gulf of Mexico, instead of
going into Florida we started to head north again.
I had a bad turn near Greenville Alabama and finished up in hosptial there
for two days being checked out, being diagnosed with another mild stroke.
Back on the road I was dizzy again and almost "lost the plot"
Finishing in hospital again in Alabaster, Alabama. for another two days of
tests and scans ect. I was advised to return home as soon as practible. So I
phoned my travel insurance telling them the story only to get a reaction
that my claim may not be valid because I did not tell them I visited the
doctor in NZ before leaving for the US. Big war looming here :-)
While I was in hospital my friend mentioned to a nurse taking blood from me
that she needed her blood checking twice a week due to drugs she is taking
in preparation for heart work soon.
Needless to say as I was released from hospital she was addmitted for
another two days.
So we eventually got back to Dayton, Ohio. Since then I have been trying to
get my flights changed, With Qantas needing the Ok from the doctor in
Alabama for me to fly.
So with great regret I have to cut my holiday short and leave on Thursday to
arrive back in NZ on my 73rd birthday missing the "Open Fields" at which I
had hoped to meet so many of the people who I have become friends with over
the past 3? years or more.
Regards to all.
