It is actually calcium hydroxide (slaked lime) which is used. A 
tablespoonful per pound will work. Just cover the corn kernels with 
water, add lime and simmer for an hour. Set aside to soak 24h before 
removing the skins.

Baking and washing sodas both taste awful.
