Brad,

Mine were big and medium hot on a couple plants and real hot on another
while green. Unfortunately they got bacterial spot and I had to pull
them up. :-( They never got to the red stage, which is hotter and more
flavorful in most peppers afaik.

Slice them lengthwise and use a fingernail brush or toothbrush. This
does tend to atomize the oils so do it with caution, well ventilated
etc.

Another method I just came up with, at least for thinner walled peppers,
is to cut off the stem end and roll them between your hands or fingers,
then shake the seed out. Works great on Thai and cayennes, Spanish
peppers and some others. Jals are probably too thick.

Cheers,
