I wish to thank everyone for their notes and wish that I could respond
to all individually. CaJohn I'll deal privately with ;-)

As to firefighter donations, I think the money would be MUCH better
given to the poor carpet sweepers, window washers, maintainance workers
and clerks families. All firefigter families who lost members will
receive Federal Death Benefits, State Public Safety Officer Death
Benefits, Union Death Benefits, Pension Benefits and probably
Departmental Life Insurance as well as whatever coverage they had
themselves. At least one major corp has already donated a sizeable
amount as have other individuals. They died doing what they loved and
knew full well that that risk is part of such a noble job. I'm more
concerned about those other folks who have no such benefits. A temp
from the secretarial pool has other expectations of a day a work....

Open Fields is still scheduled and no changes are planned. In a good
news/bad news sort of thing, recovery at the Pentagon is going to be so
long and involved it will be days after the open fields before it looks
like I'll be heading east. As I suspected from the photos, the impact
point was directly into his office. I would ask that all who attend the
open fields not let all this stuff take the smile from their face or the
laughter from the gathering.

I'm shuttling the first loads of chiles out of the fields all day
today. I've got TONS of orange hab, which did really well this year.
Cayennes & Japs look good too. The Red Savina(R) look really good
also- I just wish they'd hurry up and ripen! The RS are about chest
high already. I'll see if I can't get pics posted.

Thanks again to all & see you in a few short weeks.
