>There is no strict definition of what chili is and >what can and can't be included. Just like with pizza, >there is no one definition of what "real" pizza is and >what you're allowed to use as a topping. Absolutely. I've had chili without beans, etc. To me, it was gross. But that is just me. I'm sure someone has a fantastic recipe that has no beans, etc. in the chili, I just haven't seen it yet. It really is a personal taste thing tho. Go with what you want. >I've heard >that "real" Texas style chile doesn't have any tomatoes >or beans in it. Sounds reasonable to me but there are >others that will disagree. Ugh! I am Texan as can be, and whoever said that about Texas chili is a liar and doesn't know nuttin about Texas!(IMHO of course) >Texas isn't the one and only >style of chili that is valid, unless you listen to a chili >snob who's definition is the only one that matters. Eat >what you like and don't worry about what the food >police have to say about it. I couldn't agree more. Yeah, I am partial to my homeland, but I have also tasted many fantastic dishes that have nothing to do with Texas except that it has been eaten by some.
