Fellow lovers of the pod, I've been away from the list for a while and am happy to return. I've always found the list to be a terrific source of information and an enjoyable way to mesh with other capsicum lovers. I have an information request I was hoping you all may be able to help me out with. I'm writing my thesis on the development of a mild habanero pepper and its economic impacts to the salsa industry. As such, there are two areas I'm looking for assistance in. First, I'm very interested in obtaining information about the economic impacts the development of the TAM Jalapeno-1 pepper had. Mainly I'd love to get information on Jalapeno sales prior to and after its release. I've contaced Pace to see if they have non-proprietary information they could share but they have yet to respond...big surprise. Anything anyone can provide would be of great assistance. Second, I know that many hard-core chileheads oppose the development of mild cultivars. I'm pretty neutral on the subject personally but would love to have some feedback from people opposed to the development as to why they feel the way they do. I don't think there is a right or wrong here I'm just looking for opinions on this topic. Pulled up my garden after the first hard freeze last night along the front range of Colorado. Kind of a depressing day for me pulling out all of my peppers. Glad to be back on the list and I appreciate any and all responses. You can reply to the list or to me directly.
