Pods, As you know, Jeff Snader of this list works in the same office as I do. Earlier this week, I gave him some of the free goodies I got at the fields - Jim's chipotle and habanero sauces, and John's hot peanut butter. Yesterday I showed the peanut butter to the receptionist, as if to say "look what they've done, even to innocent peanut butter." She said, oh, do you like hot stufff? My husband and I get some stuff you should try. She brought in a bottle today. She says they first got a bottle at a little roadside stand in Florida, and liked it so much that they regularly call up and order another case. It is called Papa Joe's Pepper Sauce, made by Joe L. Smothers, 836 Jones Court, Chipley, FL 32428 (850) 636-4976. Ingredients: Pepper, vinegar, salt. A nice red flavor, not complex, but much fuller and fresher than something like Frank's, even though the levels of vinegar and salt flavor are similar. This morning I looked again through the box from the fields, and darn if that isn't one of those uselessly-hot jars of salsa that CaJohn made for someone's custom order. It looks like a salsa, but it tastes like an extract sauce with some salsa flavor in it. So I brought it in. Right now, over in the Quality Assurance department (known for their potluck spreads), there are four sauces and a bag of chips, surrounded by people asking "How can anyone eat that stuff?" The sauces are - - Jim's Firey Habanero (most popular because it's sweet) - CaJohn's nameless extract salsa - my own red hab/apple mash - Papa John's People are hesitantly sampling, and running away in regret. As for myself, my eyes are a little bit sore as if I've had a good cry recently, but I'll be back to the sauces soon. Ah, I love Fridays in the office. - A _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
