When I am in India everyone warns you to wash your hands afterwards in Lemon 
or tea water which they bring to the table.  It must work as I could always 
take out my contacts, but eating Vindaloo with nan using fingers is a whole 
lot different from chopping the raw chiles.  Most Hot Indian dishes contain 
whole chiles and mirch/murch.

<< Hmm, it makes me wonder, what happens where the culture of eating with 
fingers intersects with a hot pepper cuisine?  Is it common to get hunan 
fingertips - that is, are there common folk sayings about pepper in the eye 
(or anywhere)?  Common remedies? >>
