I bought a coconut and, providing I can figure > out how to hack into that lil sucker, want to make salted coconut chips, > a simple recipe I found in an Hawaiian cookbook. I can answer this much for you. If you have peeled away the outer shell so all you have is the inner, brown hard shell, then take a large knife, like a butcher knife, scythe, or cleaver, and strike it along the width of the shell(the 3 eyes on the one end would be to your left or right, depending on position) until it begins to crack. It must show cracks. Continue along the same area until the crack grows, then stick the knife inside the crack and twist it, thereby prying it open. There will be fluid inside(milk or water), so be prepared for it. Then enjoy! My wife is Indian raised in Malaysia, so she spilled the beans about it for me to tell you. Good luck!
