Rael, You might want to try a chile piquin. They're fairly hardy, compact plants, produce heavy and they have a lot of bang for the buck -- and I suspect piquins don't show up in Idaho stores that much.. They naturally overwinter down here in Texas (which ain't like an Idaho winter) and stand up to heat and drought well. Another choice would be a good Thai chile. I've had good luck with thaiherbs.com -- the red chile is thin and upright growing and again bears heavily -- and hot. I don't know good their mail order is though.
