Cameron Begg asked: "So where did "aji" come from? Another S. Amer. language I suppose." You have to think so, since my Peruvian co-worker and one person from Ecuador knew hot capsicums as "aji (accent on the last syllable, but this is an ASCII list - use imagination). However, deep recesses in my mind indicate the natives Columbus encountered called them "axi." This became hispanicized to "aji." I just looked it up in Jean Andrews _Peppers_the_Domesticated_Capsicums_ and this says it would be Arawak in origin. George Nelson
