Probably everywhere in Caribbean ambient humidity is essentially always what we would consider high (like maybe 75-100%)), and due to ocean proximity probably nowhere in Caribbean does temperature get really high (sure, it will occasionally get 105-110 F or so, but again, 110 F at 80-90% humidity is significantly different from 110 F at 2-20% humidity, for high-transpiration-rate plants). So, climatic conditions are such that we would naturally expect one of the most commonly grown chile species in Caribbean to be C. chinense, and it is, just as we would not expect C. chinense to be commonly grown in most of Mexico (i.e., outside Yucatan peninsula region) or SW USA, and it is not. --- Brent
