We just returned from Albuquerque after attending the Fiery Foods show! The show was good, although I think it was smaller than in last years. I don't have stats to back that up, it's just a feeling we had. Jim Campbell was there, of course. We also had the pleasure of meeting Abby, his wonderful wife (Hi Abby!). We arrived there on Thursday night, stayed at the Brittania and Maugher B& B ( we HIGHLY recommend this place, it's about 5 blocks from the convention center and is wonderful! http://www.maugerbb.com/ ) . Friday AM we arrived and went into the show. Friday morning was REALLY quiet. Several vendors were still getting set up, so we had a chance to visit with Jim and some other people we know. Friday afternoon we went out and bought a fireplace, which we are having shipped back to our house, although it will not be in place until after the hotluck. On Saturday, Susie bought an original piece of art while we were there as well. Linda Paul, an artist out of Colorado, applies plaster to her canvas and the sculpts her painting from that, creating a 3D bas relief. She then paints it with egg based tempura paints, using pigments she grinds herself. This link takes you to the painting she purchased: http://www.lindapaul.com/Pepper%20Pail%20Giclee.htm I understand from Jim and other vendors that once the public was allowed in, it was wall to wall people. Apparently the fire marshal closed the doors twice on Saturday as it had gotten too crowded. Saturday afternoon we went back to the B&B in the afternoon, after having gone to a few wineries in the area for some tastings. We went in and were introduced to Richard Camp, who was also staying there. The hostess said he did something with the Food Channel. Naturally we were curious, as we had been contacted by the food channel to possibly shoot the hotluck. We explained that someone else had contacted us and why. He asked who we were and where we were from, we explained. Turns out HE was the one who had contacted us! He was a little blown away by the coincidence. He hasn't finalized his attendance, but we'll be in contact with him to verify. They had been over on Saturday doing some filming. We were talking to one of Cajohn's people and heard that one of the cameramen was filming when someone tasted one of their hotter hot sauces. Apparently the person tasting it was saying it was extremely hot, so the cameraman had to try it. Sounded like it was a LOT hotter than the cameraman had expected. The filming they are doing will be on "Extreme Cuisines", but, of course, we don' t know when. If they're out for the hotluck, it will be part of the same show. We went back briefly on Sunday morning, just long enough to pick up some last few items, including some hot stuff from Jim Campbell for the hotluck. We'll have those items and a bunch more at the hotluck! Overall, it was a great trip! We understand that Mary Going was there as well, but didn't run into her. Curt & Susie
