Don't know if I qualify as one of the 'technical people' or not (I usually think 'Cameron' for that ;-), but here goes.... Technically pure capsaicin, I believe, is 15 million Scoville. To get one that registers 7.1 million, you cut it by a little over half. Technical enough? :-P Seriously- there are many different strenghts of oleo resin capsaicin (ORC) on the market. I routinely see 1/2 mil, 1 mil, 2 mil, 4 mil, and 5 mil. I use the 2 mil in pretty great quantity for CaJohns Viscious Viper. 1 mil is in my Backdraft. Most all of them use a soybean oil for the carrier- IMHO that is what gives those extract sauces that burnt cat hair taste as much as anything. The trick becomes in trying to nuetralize that taste. Also- since there is no independent verification of claims, no standards that must be passed, and no real regulation of these claims, I can put any number I want on there- if you are willing to pay the $99/bottle this guy was getting, caveat emptor! You going to pay $110 bucks for independent testing so as to get your money back? I think not :-) -Jim C Mild to Wild
