last night, dinner at Guapos -- was great! There were 12 of us: Abby & Jim Campbell (www.wildpepper.com) Carol & Robert Farr (www.thechileman.com) Delores L. Farr Jennie Farr Martin Brockman Keith "Pecos" Glasgow Diane & Peter Ashkenaz Joanne & Andy Barnhart We were a diverse group, but united in good food and drink, and our love for El Grande. A great time was had by all, and there was good yakity-yak at both ends of the table all night long. In particular, Jim and Pecos were exchanging numerous "war stories" during dinner. There is just something about CHs getting together to have a good party. The food again was excellent TexMex: the butterfly shrimp and the quail done on the mesquite grill were again delicious. However, culinary highlights were provided by both Robert and Jim, in that they both brought ample samples of their products. We had great fun sampling their sauces and salsas with the tortillas and other foods. There were two in particular that I take note of: o Robert provided a "Respect Your Elderberries" sauce, not too hot, which went well with the quail, and, which I imagine, would go great with duck. o Jim provided an item which was new to me: "Red Savina Garlic Sauce", which was basically a straight habanero mash, flavored with garlic. For the shrimp, I had ordered some "Mexican butter", which was quite good -- but needed something. Then, I spotted the Red Savina sauce: > one ounce went into the drawn butter! Robert, who was sitting next to me, and who had also ordered the shrimp, complained at least 3 or 4 times how terribly hot it was - but continued to use it also for the quail and fajitas! (A familiar CH story.) I am quite pleased with myself for having instigated this. I plan to do so again -- or, perhaps, as several at the table suggested, there is enough critical CH mass to hold a hotluck in the DC-metro area. Please let me/the list know if you also think so.
