Hi All -- I wanted to revisit this thread briefly, now that the seedlings are really taking shape. I have now planted seeds from list members Hobby Farmer (Bob Shuman) and Randy Boulden in addition to those I planted earlier from other list members. Of course, these seeds are sprouting like crazy, just like all of the others from list members. This will be far and away the most chiles I have ever grown in a season and I am really bouncing off walls with excitement. I planted 31 seed types and got germination from 25 of them -- four of the six that didn't sprout were very old seeds from Shepherd's that had not been kept in very good condition. I am, thus, hoping to grow the following this year -- Red Cherry, Italian Cayenne, Long Thick Cayenne, Red Mushroom, Yellow Mushroom, Caribbean Red, Pisbas Harari, Siberian Indoor, Pisbas Haymi, Fresnoid, Red Savina F2, Francisca Habanero, Tabasco, Manzano, Hell's Bells, Bolivian Rainbow, Yatasfusca, Trifetti, Yung Ko, Bulgarian Carrot, Italian Round Red, De Arbol, Hot Apple, Red Peter, and one more whose name I can't remember right now.... I know this is quite a bit less than many of you grow, but it's a big undertaking for me.... Hey, Atlanta-area CH's -- I will not be able to actually grow all of the plants that I have started (although I will grow some of every variety). Many of them were planted to provide redundancy. That said, I am not yet sure what I will have to give away, but let me know if you would like a couple of bedding plants -- I ask only that you pick them up from me either at home or at work. I hope that all Northern Hemisphere CH-gardens are coming along nicely. I'd love to hear some updates. Matt ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ T. I have planted seeds from 4 sources this year -- my own (1 month old), list member Ingrid Ruscheinski (1-2 years old), the free seeds from Uncle Steve (www.ushotstuff.com) last year (1-2 years old), and Shepherd's Seeds (2-3 years old). My seeds, nearly all of Ingrid's seeds, and all of the Uncle Steve seeds have not only come up, but come up quickly and prolifically (nearly every seed in every plug has sprouted). I only have 1 sprout from 18 plugs worth of Shepherd's seeds. Granted, they are a little older than any of the other seeds, but I am nonetheless a little disappointed. Hopefully a few more will come up in the coming week or two. (Note that I have these seeds left over from when I couldn't get them to grow the first season I bought them -- maybe just some bunk seeds.) At any rate, I just wanted to publicly thank Uncle Steve and Ingrid for their generosity and for sending me such ultra-high quality seeds. I believe that these types of things speak well for all of our list members -- an ultra-high quality bunch. Hope all is well. Matt ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ T.
