I'm still not sure what I'm going to bring yet... Anyway, I know Alex is still working on convincing his wife... Is anyone else thinking of camping. I did my own little forecast (I should mention that, while my short range forecasting is very good, my mid-range forecasting is somewhat suspect, and there is a great deal of discrepency in the various forecast models...), and, unfortunately, it does not agree with the NWS forecast i last read. I'm thinking Friday night lows will be down arround the upper 30's, maybe as low as 35. Saturday should be more like mostly cloudy, instead of the NWS mostly sunny, with perhaps a brief sprinkle or two. High low 50's, low saturday night in the low 40's. Sunday should be quite a bit nicer. Mostly cloudy, maybe a scattered shower - actually, there's a marginal chance of a weak thunderstorm, but its doubtfut - high in the mid-60's. So, while my forecast puts low temps about 5-10 degrees lower than the NWS, it's not that bad. It's been about 3 years since I've camped, but we're not talking snow here (last time I went camping, my tent collapsed under the weight of 14 inches of wet snow...) Unfortunately, as I've pulled everything out, it seems all is going wrong. I got out the coleman stove, and found a mouse nest made from some mysterious white fluffy stuff and bits of blue fabric. I got out my sleeping bag, and found it was the source of both the white fluffy stuff and the blue fabric. Ug. So, I got out the tent last night, and decided to take a look, make sure it was OK. Noticed the address I had written on the stuff sack tag... The tent is at least old enough to vote. it may be old enough to purchase alcoholic bevereges. Anyway, all of the seams and zippers looked good, so i was feeling rather smug. Then I thought I would check the poles. That was when I remember the last time i went camping... One of the poles is broken, the other is held together by electrical tape... So, anywho, I guess I have to scour town for a fiberglass tent pole repair kit tonight... Anyway, it would be nice to get some campsites together if other CH's are camping. Alex suggested that he and I get sites with about 2 empty sites between them. it would be unlikely that other campers would choose sites with other folks (us) in them. So, that way, there'd be the 2 sites between us, and probably a site on either side outside of us, giving us a "claim" of 4 additional sites... Also, since I won't be able to get off work until about 4:00, we'll (bringing a non-CH friend, who's somewhat scared) be fashionably late - save some of the moderate food for us ;) -- Chad Gard, KB9WXQ INCHASE: http://www.inchase.org Co-founder SCOA: http://www.stormchasersofamerica.org Member #3 INSWA: http://www.insw.org Unit #21
