I realize you may not want to use this but it is something > that worked. > > Charlie Charlie, Check again--there should only be one type of sevin--sevin is a trade name for carbaryl, a "moderately to very toxic" substance. Check out: http://ace.orst.edu/cgi-bin/mfs/01/pips/carbaryl.htm Extoxnet is very good to find out pesticide information: http://ace.orst.edu/info/extoxnet/ghindex.html For aphids if insecticidal soap doesn't work UC Davis recommends a number of things possibly safer to use than sevin. See: http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/r604300111.html One chemical they recommend is IMIDACLOPRID, which is related to nicotine. To confirm what Rael sez, I've had good luck with a homebrew of nicotine and soap. There're recipes around. Boil the tobacco if Tobacco Mosaic Virus concerns you. There're some 3rd generation pesticides, synthetic derivatives of natural pyrethins, that seem to have good environmental characteristics. Personally I haven't had to use pesticides for chiles, but here in California we have Argentine ants which have killed (as in _extinct_) the native ants and have no natural enemies. A 3rd gen ant bait works ok with them. Insecticidal oil (Neem???) oil seems to work well with whitefly. Hot regards, Riley
