On my way home from downtown on Friday, I stopped at the North Market. One vendor carries a few shelves full of unusual Mexican and Hispanic sauces and seasonings. This was wherre I bought that sofrito sauce a few months ago. This time I picked out a seasoning under the Chef Metro brand, called Salt, Lemon, and Chili. Ingredients: salt, dry lemon powder, ground chili pepper, cirtric acid, and calcium silicate. (I've seen citric acid added for tartness to other peppery Mexican powders.) The label offers these recipes: Pico de Gallo Salad Peel and cut into mouthpiece pieces the following fruits and vegetables: canteloupe, honeydew, watermelon, cucumbers, jicama, and oranges. Sprinkle our Salt Lemon & Chili all over and mix well. Serve. Chicken Buy boneless and skinless chicken or chicken pieces. Pour olive oil or melted butter all over the pieces. Sprinkle Chef Metro's Salt, Lemon and Chili and mix well. Cook over a grill. Serve. I thawed and shelled a bag of shrimp, seasoned them with this stuff and nothing lese, tossed them in some oil, and sauteed them. Everybody in the house was snacking on them - I'd thought they would be too peppery for Linda's daughter Jesi, at least, but she liked them too. Hey James the Other, we had fun at the Bucyrus bratwurst festival last night. We got there just in time to catch the parade. Looks like the corn up there is pretty dry and short; we have been seeing much greener stuff while cruising around down in Pickaway County where they've had a lot more rain. - A _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
