John - It sounds like your plant may have one portion that has spontaneously mutated. If memory serves, this is called a sport or a chimera. Sports can be asexually propagated (what fun is that??) to produce more like plants. Chimeras tend to be unstable when propagated by cuttings, the new growth may or may not continue the mutation. This happens every once in a while in nature, fun, huh??
