When I lived in SoCal, I was a member of the local chapter of the University of 
New Mexico Alumni Association.  We used to have a green chile roast up near 
Malibu around Labor Day weekend every year -- a fellow from NM would bring a 
roaster and a mess of green chile and we would buy, roast, and eat chile all 
afternoon.

I wish I could remember the name of the fellow who organized it, but I can't -- 
I'm sure some form of Google search would turn up the info on this fellow's 
website, though.  Go Lobos!
