I just wanted to make a yellow sauce, since I had yellow tomatoes from the garden and a matching yellow hab. But when I cut into the hab, it was heatless. Well, I was already committed to the sauce project, so I dug into my closet and pulled a small jar of the 1999 pickled datils from Jim's fields. I also called upon two tablespoons of the excellent purira powder given to me by list member Dannie Scates. While in keeping with the color scheme, I also tossed in one starfruit (carambola) which, it turns out, has a remarkable ability to keep its aroma as strong as the onions and garlic. This makes me think I should make a starfruit-based sauce... I almost added a banana (I am watching Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes as I write this) but I decided against this being a sweet sauce. So, now it is almost ready to go into the canning jars which are just now warming up in the boiling water bath. My old white enameled Polish stock pot takes over from here.
