ChileHeads, In about 5 weeks Effy (with "Baby Chile") and I, will leave the Great Pacific Northwest on our journey to Texas. Our quickest route would be to travel through the Rockies, but with the winter approaching and the baby as well we have decided to take another route. We plan to travel south through Oregon, and California (if they will allow us in), then across to Las Vegas for a couple of days, Arizona complete with the Grand Canyon. We plan to travel through New Mexico then down through much of Texas. Tentatively we are planning to begin the trip on Friday November 1st and arrive in Texas City on about Monday November 11th if not sooner. If anyone is interested in meeting up with us that would be great. This will be Effy's big tour of our country and we hope to get in some sightseeing of the major attractions. Oregon is beautiful and with the fall in full color it should be worth the trip. California will be nice as well. I'm not certain, but perhaps someone can point us in the direction of some interesting sights in California. Las Vegas will be something for Effy to behold I am sure. So we are planning to stay a couple of days there. There are some new hotels that I haven't seen and some other sights that I just plain old missed when I lived there. The Grand Canyon will be our next stop. I've been there once and it still just makes me feel small and insignificant at the sight of what power created this masterpiece. New Mexico of course will be the next stop. I have to restock on my Chile Peppers and what better area to do so than New Mexico. Now I get confused as to whether we should go through Amarillo and Oklahoma City then cut down and travel through Dallas, or go through Las Cruces, El Paso and San Antonio before heading to Houston and Texas City. We will be leaving a great group of people here in the Pacific Northwest. We have made many friends and we hope to keep these friendships alive. We also hope to make new friends in Texas as well as wherever we travel. We hope to meet many of you along the way. We get great satisfaction being able to put a face with a name. Take care and God Bless! John, Effy and "Baby Chile" Whalen
