Hey Chile-heads This past weekend I was out along the road side mesh bag in hand gathering black walnuts from a row of trees that has survived urban sprawl in the small city I live in. (Muskegon Mi. USA) (I don't think this will last. ) Doing my best to avoid the road kill and eye contact with the people in the cars and trucks as they whizzed by me I gathered maybe a peck or more of black walnuts in the shell after I had shucked them all. It gives me an odd feeling when I gather wild food within the confines of a town. It feels a bit like I was stealing, or dumptster diving. I can feel the eyes on me as I fill my bag with free food. I've picked Shaggy Mane mushrooms in parking lots. Morels in peoples yards. :-) Asparagus along the roadside. I veer I guess... and I'm off topic. I did have a question. Which is.... Has any one on the list ever used black walnuts and chile in any form in a recipe? My first stop with this delicious nut is going to be banana nut bread with a little whipped cream...and then maybe some sticky cinnamon rolls with brown sugar and orange and black walnuts but I am willing to listen to others. ;-) L8r Jose
