>I had to get more precise with my question: When I ask them how _they_ would pronounce in a family environment, they pronounce it as "hero". More accurately, they pronounce it, as best as I describe, "(g)hero" (small fraction of "g" - large fraction of "h") - this is not something that I can pronounce. Also, definite "e" vs "i" or "y". > >By any pronunciation, gyros are good. >AndyB If I ever ordered a jiero here I'd get looked at real funny Andy. Your (g)hero description is close, just think hyearo, and you're right gyros are good! I had a problem with the pronunciation in 1977 but now I've got it down pat. I like mine done as a gyro plate. That's with the meat, pita, onions, tzatziki and tomatoes served separately. A generous sprinkling of good Hungarian paprika definitely adds to the flavor.
