In situations of normal rainfall, there is no need for extra watering. As water will tend to saturate an area to an equal level, if you have sufficient rainfall, your chiles will get plenty of water. The only reason I've had to bore you all with stories of garden hoses siphoning out of 55 gl drums has been due to the substantially below normal of rainfall we've had periodically the last year or two. You can also just water at the base of the plant and the opening in the plastic will allow plenty of water through for your needs. -Jim C Mild to Wild
