   I kept a chile plant alive for 3 years and pruned
it heavily on the advice of a neighbor who did a lot
more gardening than me.  You have to be merciless,
really get rid of everything that either looks bad or
looks like it might go bad.
   I ended up with a pathetic looking stick in a 10
inch pot with one or two small branches.  Kinda broke
my heart to see it that way.  But when I set it out in
the spring it responded beautifully.
