Mushroom compost is a godsend.
Chicken leavings mixed with wheat straw, peat moss, cottonseed meal, gypsum, and lime. (Well, it's a godsend here in the midlands of SC.) It still has too much nitrogen to grow plants directly in it (even after being sterilized and having mushrooms grown in it), but as a fertilizer, it's great.
