As John said, "the freezing before drying caused cellular damage". If you
want to save seeds, remove the seeds from a few pods before freezing.

After properly dried seeds can be kept in the freezer and this extends the
shelf-life of the seed. This is useful if you do not get to plant out a
particular variety for a few years.
