Linda - I've made each of these recipes - sometimes in a crockpot, 
sometimes not. All are good. All are different enough one from the other to 
justify keeping separate. And all are easy to modify to your taste  <GGG>

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

       Title: Hot and Spicy Sloppy Joes
  Categories: Crockpot, Beef, Sandwiches
       Yield: 8 Sammiches

   1 1/2 lb Ground beef
       1 lg onion, chopped (1 cup)
       1 cl Garlic; minced
       6 oz Can hot-style tomato juice
            -=OR=-
            Piquante V8 veggie cocktail
     1/2 c  Catsup
     1/2 c  Water
       2 tb Brown sugar
       2 tb Chopped canned jalapenos
       1 tb Prepared mustard
       2 tb Penderey's Ft. Worth Light
            Chilli Powder
       1 ts Worcestershire sauce
       8    Hamburger buns
            Shredded cheese

   In a large skillet cook ground beef, onion, and garlic till meat is
   brown and onion is tender.  Drain off fat.

   Meanwhile, in a 3 1/2 or 4 quart crockery cooker combine tomato juice,
   catsup, water, brown sugar, jalapeno peppers, mustard, chilli powder
   and Worcestershire sauce.  Stir in meat mixture. Cover; cook on low
   heat setting for 7-8 hours or high heat setting for 3-4 hours.
   Toast buns; spoon meat mixture over buns and sprinkle with cheese.

   Serves 8.

   For 5 or 6 quart crockery cooker:  Double all ingredients. Prepare as
   above.  Makes 16 servings.

   For 1 quart crockery cooker:  Omit water.  Use 1 pound ground beef; 1
   medium onion, chopped; 1 small clove garlic, minced; one 6 oz can
   hot-style tomato juice; 1/4 c catsup; 1 TBSP brown sugar; 1 TBSP
   chopped canned jalapeno peppers; 2 tsp prepared mustard; 1 tsp chilli
   powder; 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce; 4 or 5 hamburger buns; and
   shredded cheese. Prepare as above. Cook for 6-10 hours. Makes 4-5
   servings.

       Yield: 1 Servings

     1/2 c  Diced onion
     1/2 c  Diced bell pepper
   2 1/2 ts Minced fresh jalapeno (sub.
            Any pepper you want)
       1 ts Minced garlic
       2 tb Olive oil
       1 lb Ground beef
     1/4 ts Salt
     1/2 ts Fresh-ground black pepper
       1 ts Fresh-ground cumin
       1 c  Ketchup
       1 c  Diced fresh or canned
            Tomatoes

   Saute onions, bell pepper, jalapeno pepper and garlic in oil until
   onions are translucent. Add beef and cook, stirring until meat is
   lightly browned. Drain fal. Add seasonings and cook 1 min. more. Add
   ketchup and tomatoes and cook uncovered over low heat until reduced
   to a thick sauce. Serve on toasted buns.

       3 lb Ground beef
       1 c  Onion; chopped
       2 cl Garlic; minced
   1 1/2 c  Ketchup
       1 c  Green pepper; chopped
     1/2 c  -Water
       4 tb Brown sugar
       4 tb Prepared mustard
       4 tb Vinegar
       3 ts Chilli powder (Penderey's
            Chiltomaline or Dallas
            Dynamite)
            Hamburger buns

   In a lg. skillet, brown ground beef, onion, and garlic. Cook until
   meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain off fat. Combine remaining
   ingredients, except buns, in crockpot. Stir in meat mixture. Cover
   and cook on low 6-8 hrs. or on high for 3-4 hrs.  Spoon onto
   hamburger buns.

   Serves 8 to 10.

       3 lb Ground beef
       2 tb Shortening
       1 c  Onion; chopped
       1 c  Celery; diced
       1    Green pepper; chopped
       1 lg Garlic clove; minced
       2 tb Worcestershire sauce
       1 c  Catsup
       3    Beef bouillon cubes; crushed
       2 tb Cayenne; ground (or more)
     1/4 ts Pepper
       1 cn Tomato paste; 6 0z.
   1 1/4 c  Water
       3 tb Vinegar
       3 ts Brown sugar
       1 ts Dry mustard

   Heat shortening in skillet and brown meat, discard fat. Combine all
   ingredients in removable liner, stirring well. Place liner in base.
   Cover and cook on low 6-8 hours; or high 3-4 hours; or auto 5 hours.
   Serve over warmed burger buns or noodles.
