Doug,

Tis be true that you can even buy the "pee" of various critters in 
concentrated form (don't ask) in a bottle.  Depending on what you're trying 
to keep away you buy Mountain Lion, Coyote, etc.  "pee in a bottle"  Hummm 
reminds of an Irish joke--he said piss in the bottle and the fight was on. <g>

There is a site where you can buy all sorts of repellents for various 
critters, but alas no mention of bears or deer:

There is a product that is a garlic concentrate that keeps the deer from 
nibbling on your plants.
