The Hatch Chile Festival will be in full force Labor Day Weekend.
Unofficially, I've been told that only 25 percent of their crops were
destroyed vs. 80% in the Las Cruces/Mesilla Valley area. I'll be
interviewing a farmer from Hatch this Saturday for the scoop and make a
full report. Re: restaurants in El Paso area: I suggest H&H Coffee Shop,
701 E. Yandell (915) 533-1144...all homemade Mexican fare prepared at
the grill behind the counter. It's attached to a car wash! It's a great
experience. This place has been written up in Gourmet magazine. A
terrific neighborhood restaurant is Kiki's Restaurant & Bar, 2719 N.
Piedras, named one of the top 100 Mexican restaurants in the country.
Another place that's been also been written up (Gourmet mag.) is just
outside of El Paso ...the Little Diner in Canutillo, Texas, 7209 Seventh
(915) 877-2176. I suggest your son sample 'em all!
