Hi Folks, Arrived home on Friday from LA after being away trotting around the world since mid May. The long summer since November last came to a sudden end as New Zealand goes into a cold snap with snow on the mountains and temperature down to 1'c last night. Too much to report in detail except that there is a much greater awareness of Chiles around the world and lots more spicy food available than in the past. High spot in my time in the USA was a visit to Jim and Abby Campbell in Franklin. Apart from the fantastic hospitality the day irrigating the chile field and watching the "bread' being made and posted. Plus the bonus of helping to make a batch of sauce will stay with me forever. A BIG public Thank you to Jim and Abby. On topic at last. Before I went away I had started a Roccoto plant off seeds from Dr Cameron Begg. It was six inches high then. I put it in a 15 litre (3 gallon) pot and left it with a small plant supplies shop who put it in a sunny window with a grow light above. When I collected it yesterday it has grown into two branches over 600 mm (feet) high. While the leaves are a nice dark green and the plant looks healthy they have lighter coloured spots all over. Is this normal for this variety? Any advice would be welcome off list. I would also like a recipe for Lime Pickle to use up the limes laying on the ground at the front of the house:-) To all the friends that I owe mail to. I will catch up as my life eases down to my normal slow pace. Tony Flynn Grandad Retired at the beach. Bay of Plenty, New Zealand.
