Sharen,

8 years ago Zinfandel grapes were test planted in Spain and yes they now are
being grown in other areas, such as Australia. BUT it is the California
variety and thus far 'tis not known or proven where the origin of this
varietal strain came from. There have been times that it was speculated it
was brought from Italy and more recently from Eastern Europe, but to no avail
as the venticulturists testings of DNA, etc., have not given them the link of
the heritage our beloved Zinfandel. I am unaware of any bottling as yet of
Zinfandels outside of California only the grapes being grown. I would think
Spain (Tarragona/Frixnet) would be harvesting and bottling by now in small
lots. Australia's vines are probably yet too immature.
