Jim C and all,
Not only does "nuttin' else" replace true smoking for flavor, but the peppers
give off that true smoke aroma for weeks afterwards. The only problem I've
had with apple wood smoke is that my apple trees look like a gorilla has been
breaking off the branches. Every cross over branch is susceptible to the big
pruning shears whenever the smoker is fired up. Lordy me, how I love that
aroma.
And, I agree with the observation about chipotles, except that I'm
chipotle-ing guajillos, jalapenos, chimayos, santa fes, and habbies.
Lastly, I'm not quite ready to advocate "Bloom Booster" to one and all for
blossom set but I do have a Habanero with 32 fruits and 15 blossoms on a
single branch. The Hab plants look like those Acacia trees on the African
Savannah (sp?) - flat topped and awfully wide. The ones in the garden are
more fruit laden than the ones in pots. So far only three ripe ones (orange
that turned red right after picking) but unless there's an early frost I'll
probably have to cut down an apple tree for smoke wood.
