I am growing the Francisca Habs mentioned in a few of the digests earlier this week. I got the first ripe ones out of my garden this Sunday. They are certainly much orange than the description supplied by Shaper's Seeds, where I bought them. Regardless of the color difference they are great peppers. They are twice as big as the Chocolate Habs I am growing and are personally the hottest Habs that I have ever had the pleasure to digest. They knocked my socks off. Even my wife commented that its the first time she has ever seen me turn flush after eating a pepper. They are a proprietary product from what I understand. I also understand that the Chocolate Habs are also regulated. I got the seeds from peppers that I bought at Hy Vee but looking through a seed catalog later this summer I found the info concerning the proprietary status. Since I don't sell the seeds (or the peppers) I don't worry about it. I don't think trading a few seeds qualifies as a violation of the rules. Another pepper that I am growing that has a patent or is controlled is the Biker Billy Jalapeno. Its another winner so I can see where those who develop these peppers deserve recognition and protection in some way for their work though it my belief that those who have the rights to these peppers are probably more concerned with the commercial grower than the small gardener as myself.
