This is off-topic for Chileheads, but it is too unusual to let it pass by. A few days ago I was cleaning and re-organizing my storeroom behind the garage, when this recipe from the Dallas News fell out of something and landed on a chest. I didn't even remember that I had saved it. I have never tried this, so I cannot recommend it. However, I do have a pyracantha bush, and it seems to me that someone said one time that these "berries" are poisonous. My bush, at present, has only two "berries" which are about the size of tennis balls. I don't know anything about the safety of eating them. So - AYOR. But if you *do* make some of this jelly and it turns out okay, please let me know about the results. Thanks. Regards, Rob * PYRACANTHA BERRY JELLY 1 cup of pyracantha berry juice 12 ounces of sugar 1/2 package of fruit pectin Extract the pyracantha berry juice by boiling 1/2 pound of berries in 3/4 cup of water for one minute. Strain the juice and add the pectin. Bring to a hard boil and add the sugar. Boil and stir continuously for 1.5 minutes. Then fill the jelly glasses. Recipe Note : Ensure that the plants have not been sprayed recently with any pesticide.
