>Byron's "drops" of chlorine are not going to disinfect pots. The usual >mixture is 1:10 chlorine to water, and a ten minute soak. "Pepper Diseases: >A Field Guide" published by Asian Vegetable Research and Development >Center, says a 2 hour soak in a 10% solution of TSP will clear up tomato >mosaic and tobamoviruses from seeds. Old-time members of chile-heads have >used chlorine to cure fungal disease in chile plants that anyone else would >have tossed out to die. ML I think if you reread what I wrote, I use 2 drops of chlorine in 16 oz or less of water to treat 1 pkg of seeds. One of the chemist on the list stated that it takes 8 drops to sterilize 1 gal of water. The last I knew that is equal to 1 drop per pint aka 16 oz. My little formula is double that. I did not state how much to use for pots. From 10 different sources I have 10 different answers. Anywhere from 2% to 20% used 3 oz of clorox in about 4 1/2 gal of water. I used a 2 min soak. For 10 years I never had any infected beer. I used the same amount for final wash of pots. In 5 years of using this ratio I have not had problems. Not exactly Sci. fact, just something that worked for me. needed a minimum of a 2 min contact of fluid to pot for disease kill. Maybe they are wrong, but it's working for me. > I'm not talking about Byron, who has poisoned his part of the world Do you say this to everyone that doesn't grow 100% organic ? > then wants people to identify his mutations. If you are refering to mislabeled seeds and wrong color pods, if you look around I was not the only one. >Margaret FWIW, The above methods worked for me, If you don't like it, use something else. I don't care. I have 5 different plant pathologist, and a couple list chemist, that feel that chlorine is a better chemical to kill bacterial/fungal/viral diseases than tsp, hot water or vinegar. The final choice is yours Byron
